CRISSY HASLAM INCREASES INDIVIDUAL CAMPAIGN VISITS
Events Will Highlight Her Focus on Children’s Issues and Education

NASHVILLE – Crissy Haslam, wife of Knoxville Mayor and Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Haslam, visited Monroe Carell, Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt University today, the first in a series of  individual campaign visits she will take across the state in the next weeks leading up to Election Day on Nov. 2.

Crissy Haslam made several individual state-wide campaign stops during the primary campaign as well, meeting with various education, business and non-profit leaders, and local Republican women groups.  During the next weeks, she will be making campaign visits focusing on her interests and passion for children’s issues and education.

Crissy Haslam toured Nashville’s Children’s Hospital today, including the Emergency Services Department and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, before sitting down with hospital officials for a meeting regarding child obesity initiatives at the hospital.

On Friday, she will attend and speak at a political meet and greet in Erwin before knocking on business doors along Erwin’s Main Street, followed by various K-12 school visits in northeastern Tennessee.

“I’ve been with Bill just about every step of the way through the Primary and up to now, but now, when I have the time, I’ll make some of my own visits to learn and discuss more about the issues facing Tennessee children,” Crissy said. “Bill is focused on making Tennessee the No. 1 location in the Southeast for jobs, and that all starts with workforce development, which starts at the beginning with educating our children.

“I want to learn more about what challenges and opportunities Tennessean children are faced with everyday,” she added.

“A candidate could not ask for a better spouse on the trail than Crissy, and I’m very indebted to her for her support,” Bill Haslam said. “She is a tremendous advocate for children’s issues, and I know she’s looking forward to getting out there and learning more about the issues.”

Bill and Crissy Haslam have been married 29 years, and they have three grown children: Annie, Leigh and Will, who is married to their daughter-in-law Hannah.

Mayor Haslam is the two-term Republican Mayor of Knoxville, reelected in 2007 with 87 percent of the vote. A hardworking, conservative public servant, Haslam led Knoxville to become one of the top ten metropolitan areas for business and expansion, while reducing the city’s debt, tripling the rainy day fund, reducing the number of city employees to the lowest amount in 15 years and bringing property taxes to the lowest rate in 50 years.  An executive leader with a proven record of success, he helped grow his family’s small business from 800 employees into one of Tennessee’s largest companies with 14,000 employees.
