AC/DC Up for Classic Rock Award

AC/DC, Kiss, Slash and Rage Against the Machine are competing for the band of the year at the Classic Rock and roll of Honor 2010.

They all hold two nods at this year's awards, and faces the likes of Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and Jeff Beck in the best band category.

There are sixteen artists nominated for album of the year including Pearl Jam, The Scorpions, Foreigner and Iron Maiden.

The awards will be hosted by Alice Cooper in London on November 10th.

The even is being held at the Roundhouse and will feature Cheap Trick and Alter Bridge.

Six categories are to be voted on online, while awards of the night include Classic Rock living legend, classic songwriter, the Tommy Vance inspiration award, outstanding contribution, classic album, metal guru and VIP award.

Other contenders for best album are Cheap Trick, Bigelf, Slash, Kiss, Wolfmother, Alice in Chains, Lynyrd Skynrd, Gaslight Anthem, Europe, Ratt, Black Crowes and Steve Hackett.

AC/DC are up for reissue of the year, for the Backtracks box set, with the Rolling Stones (Exile on Main Street), also with Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, David Bowie, Nazareth, King Crimson and Rhino Records' Where The Action Is: LA Nuggets 1965-1968.

The nominations for best new band are The Union, fronted by former Thunder guitarist Luke Morley, Taking Dawn, Finnish metallers Reckless Love, White Wizard and New Yorkers Alberta Cross.

Up for DVD/film of the year is The Runaways, a movie about the 1970s all girl band with Kristen Stewart, of Twilight fame, and Dakota Fanning.

It faces Julien Temple's Dr Feelgood documentary Oil City Confidential, Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage, Saxon” Heavy Metal Thunder and The Doors: When You're Strange, narrated by Johnny Depp.
